How does Covid-19 affect the body? SARS-CoV-2 attacks the body through the circulatory system, entering via the respiratory system. Regardless of whether a person has mild, moderate or severe symptoms or had active blood clotting while they were positive for Covid-19, blood clotting can occur after having recovered from the virus, up to about seven weeks or so after testing negative. The primary damage done to organs, including the brain and blood vessels, in the body is done by micro clotting and then by the body over reacting with its inflammatory response.
Numerous studies have shown the inflammation of organs and vessels can continue months beyond a negative Covid-19 test, sometimes without a person realizing that there is anything going on. Also, remember that cognitive issues, trauma, depression and PTSD can affect survivors. Giving you the time to heal from the effects of SARS – CoV – 2 is paramount to keeping you safe.
There is almost no information published on what happens to the lymph system in response to Covid-19. Lymph nodes can swell as part of the normal process of fighting a virus, but with Covid-19, two small studies have shown that it generally happens in more seriously ill Covid-19 patients and it only occurs in the mediastinum (space between the heart, lungs, trachea and esophagus) wehere only a CT scan can show it occurring. More research needs to be done on this as massage therapy affects the lymph system.
